<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The common scenario in my life: Arriving home after a long day prepping a job. My arms are laden with bags, it's raining, so I can't put them on the ground. My handbag is a bottomless pit of supplies I have needed throughout the day, and as I dig through it I can't seem to find the one thing I really need right now: my freakin' house keys. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Well, my friend a colleague, a talented stylist, has come up with the perfect solution. She has created <a href="http://leashNY.com/">Leash NY</a>. Handcrafted leather leashes to attach to your keys (or anything else you can't seem to dig out of your purse fast enough). It attaches to hardware or handles outside your purse on one end, and your keys on the other. Just tug, and the desired object is at hand. Awesome. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">What's even better is that they come in a variety of different colors. I own a beautiful white one (my current color obsession), in a very soft buttery leather adorned with tiny pyramid studs. I adore it, and it matches my white Botkier perfectly.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">And what's even better than all that, is that 25% of the proceeds of a Leash NY purchase are donated to non-profit organizations supporting women's education and artisans. Currently the money is going to Afghanistan. The charity is educating women in handicrafts, so that they may have products to sell. <a href="http://LeashNY.com/">LeashNY.com</a> is featuring some works by these women,</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> such as an amazing amethyst silver ring. Gorgeous. I also really love the silver and gold plated drop earrings. I have been pretty obsessed with mixed metals lately, as well as ethnic designs. This is the real deal, not just some designers ethnic inspiration.</span></div><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/pEPoNE0oevaFqkapot-Fgw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRCrD2WJ7tJa639R1G3jKFX-K1ibsaFYiVDuRRzCQaTX8FPS7fK4as1zoFVPoeqMD3gIx8wVNjUTsGV_DA2o4BW6gq9vyO854E16i6ThLMkrbKgw4TW9fflA0Mlduh5M63gICgHht731U/s800/amethystring.jpg" height="547" width="602" /></a><br />

Her close friend is getting married but is not at all girly, and really never wears dresses. She said she wanted to wear a dress, but something that is understated while still acknowledging the momentous occasion.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I suggested the formal full length skirt, which I am loving. The idea is a full pillar of luxurious fabric from the natural waistline to the floor, paired with a slightly more casual top. It is a clean sophisticated look, while not being too ostentatious.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">For spring, Jil Sander had many great examples walk down the runway, from wedding whites, to spring colors, to florals. What was really great was the pairing of such a formal fabric and silhouette with a simple soft tee shirt. In the case of the floral, the pattern extended from luxe fabric and on to the comfortable cotton, essentially marrying the rich with the humble.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Another source for this look is the surprisingly elegant J Crew wedding line, which boasts a beautiful full pleated shimmering tulle skirt which they have again paired with a simple tee.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The tee when fitted just right (not at all tight, but not too loose), creates a soft easy elegant feminine silhouette. The fabric may be everyday, but the look is classy. If it's still too understated a look for your needs, a blingy statement piece of jewelry would pop beautifully off the tee.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">However, one could also try Tilda Swinton's take on the look by going with a button-up shirt. This gives it a slight masculine formality, which depends entirely on the personality of the wearer. I also should note that I love the subtle contrast of the pairing of crisp white with creme, something I have become a recent fan of.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Above, Tilda Swinton and Kate Bosworth. <div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">For a good few seasons now, I have been adoring the combinations of neutrals. Nudes and tans paired with greys and textural silvers. Greys paired with caramel leather. Every subtle contrasty nuance really whetted my aesthetic appetite. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The next step has finally come, with brightly colored prints and embroidery gracing taupe, tan, and khaki fabrics. I adore this unexpected contrast. The sea of sandy earthtone is enough to make the brightest and busiest pattern a just subtle flirt. And the color elevates the khaki out of utilitarian and into femininity.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I don't see how you can go wrong with a piece like those I have seen on the runways for Fall 2011. I imagine they will be in your closet for years to come.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I love the whimsical bird pattern of the Mulberry dress on the left. On the right, Matthew Williamson takes a step back from his usual 100% color saturation, placing his bright embroidery on an unexpected canvas. Having made many trips to Mexico, I am used to seeing such bright floral embroidery on equally bright whites, which is often too much for my aesthetic.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I can't wait for these pieces (and ones like them) to hit the stores, so in the mean time, I will have to throw on some bright colored accessories and shoes with my khakis and tans.</span></div><div style="text-align: right;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: xx-small;">Photos by style.com</span></span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-25331437129586279812011-02-23T09:00:00.001-05:002011-02-23T09:00:22.527-05:00Style-out for my new fave piece<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/mtWKiWkQi5pZNGwynvni_g?feat=embedwebsite"><img height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaV7DgLmZC_eq3R54WrQZuPqKgs-xTa2EJzSEVedXzEc_0hdwvNKMShi2bGX6E_pVqIp3z1Xg-cLigVgvGQpSZgopPu34ipnX5GJ1_pKREzzct37ZIWbIkkkfsHwxbU6k2ZdT6Y_7kmDk/s800/armylook.jpg" width="602" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">First I obsess over a piece, dreaming as I build imaginary outfits around it. In this case it was the Valentino for Gap army parka. I had been looking for an army parka for a while as I feel like a neutral army green is a great way to add an authentic punky edge without overdoing black leather and studs. For me, it's also an homage to my long distant activist days, where the army-navy store was a major resource for durable clothes and boots. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I ended up choosing the Valentino version because I wanted a whimsical heightened version of my former self. Also because Manhattan is beginning to look like it's under marshall law, and all the enforcers are thin 20-something gals with great hair and impractical shoes. I figured I might as well go ahead and acknowledge my femininity a bit more.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The idea was to throw it over anything and everything from sequined dresses, regular skinny jean outfits, and bright colors such as magenta. And lo, I have had much luck with pairing it with everything. I just can't go wrong.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">None-the-less, I do love to fantasize the perfect outfit, which I have created above. I chose a delicate silk print dress in a bright pink by Tucker. I love pink with army green, and I think the reason is that this color combo occurs in nature. Every flower combines a bright color with green stem, nestled in a flounce of green leaves. I am loving sheer black hosiery, especially those that feature a subtle texture such as small black dots. I would also be partial to a black seam up the back. Chunky casual heeled black booties give an edge while elongating the leg. I am loving these inspired by desert boots (which I am seeing everywhere these days). And finally, I like to top off my look with a bit of vintage inspired bling. Again, it's the unexpected texture and shine that pops off nicely with the rough and ready army neutral.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Jacket: Valentino for Gap (check ebay if you must)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Silk Dress: </span><a href="http://www.theoutnet.com/product/62986"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Tucker</span></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Jewelry:<a href="http://www.blogger.com/goog_1539047906"> </a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/goog_1539047906">Lulu Fros</a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><a href="http://lulufrost.com/shop">t</a></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Shoes: </span><a href="http://www.zappos.com/mia-cadet-black-suede"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">MIA</span></a></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-4158139111462411282011-02-22T15:00:00.001-05:002011-02-22T15:00:06.563-05:00How an edgy gal styles her whites<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/MJSlJXMO2-cCGpIYVjFtMg?feat=embedwebsite"><img height="578" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/TWMlHaW8bvI/AAAAAAAABr0/_HUBRBodNZY/s800/temperley.jpg" width="602" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This spring you'll be seeing head to toe white looks as they had dominated the runways last September. Many are tailored, some textural, and a lot of them are floaty. For a good time now, I have been on the hunt for a great frothy white dress, but I always knew I would not be able to pull off a head to toe angelic look. For one thing, my hair is jet black, and for another it's just not me.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">However, I adore the contrast that white and creme in my wardrobe provide. So, of course, I just adored the styling of this Temperley white frothy dress for fall 2011. The thick black belt reminds me of the harness look, the sheer dot textured hosiery provides just enough darkness and interest, and finally I am all about a black boot with a feminine dress.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I have already sported a floaty off white dress with my black moto boots or my black moto jacket. I like that the Temperley look is more subtle with it's edge and manages to retain 100% femininity whilst injecting a good amount of 'bad-ass'. I will replace my biker boot with a stacked heel or wedge bootie, and replace the moto jacket with a good black belt.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Done an done.</span></div><div style="text-align: right;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: xx-small;">Temperley photo from Style.com</span></span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-54690685990789511592011-02-21T21:41:00.004-05:002011-02-22T14:47:05.949-05:00Strap me into my new obsession<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Ag-TRq_rTpePrAiPZmWzQQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img height="582" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisH1DAWmDg-r-JZNL2R12sOU82IcrKRhtYSe_hka6U9LlX0PiD3C3mQchpxZmYH-duIwZZeK9ARSCxDadin1uUa4WEw-Ljitfy5IyValabRqUDJUROEyRUN79bMNxFiu0ezELfofXjTdA/s800/mariosschwab.jpg" width="602" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I am loving that fashion went punk and edgy a few years ago, and it seems to have stayed on the dark side. I mean, in a way, it makes it difficult to maintain any sort of level of mystique or image of rebellion, but on the other hand it means that cool things are readily available for purchase.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Last fashionweek Marios Schwab featured a long otherwise feminine floaty white dress paired with a caramel colored leather harness. There are so many things I love about this, I don't know where to start. A harness is an innovative way to belt a dress and help create a flattering silhouette. It also provides a contrast color as well as an interesting geometric pattern. But most of all, it provides a bad-ass edge, and as you readers must know about me by now, I love contrasting the uber-feminine with the uber-tough. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I dream of pairing a caramel leather harness on a simple heather grey t-shirt maxi dress. Or a black leather harness on my floaty feminine cream chiffon dress. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I've actually discovered some great harness options on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/67142137/lillian-roth-vintage-leather-green?ref=v1_other_1">Etsy</a>. See below:</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Recently a couple of my good friends launched a jewelry line called <a href="http://www.urbanboulder.com/">Urban Boulder</a>. I have to say that I love the ethos and aesthetics behind this label. The name denotes that the inspiration is found in the city streets around us. The sights, shapes, and sounds that we all too often block out and edit from our daily consciousness is what Designer, Lisa Simpson, focused on as a point of beauty. Personally, as a city dweller, I love to stop and admire the grafitti (or just as easily, a rusted twist of metal) as much as a suburbanite enjoys stopping to smell the roses. As a result, this line really talks to me. I especially adore the bracelet with a 'One-Way' sign, which can be seen as a simple street sign, or much more (as a fave band of mine says: "there's only one way of life, and that's your own, your own, your own"). Of course, I am sure I am extrapolating my own meaning from this piece, but that's the beauty. By altering ordinary things into jewelry, one is altering our perception of ordinary things in such a way that we can imbibe meaning from them.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I also really love the Nut and Bolt necklace, but this is mostly because it rocks. It's hard and edgy, but at the same time super luxe. The chunky nature of the silver and the rope chain make Urban Boulder jewelry the sort to last generations. And speaking of rocks, let's talk about the Boulder itself. This is where the ethos comes in.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Opal rocks are hand-mined in co-founder, Remo Carbone's, native Australia. Urban Boulder buys directly from independant miners and unlike other jewelers they keep it in boulder form rather than just extracting the shiny bits. To me, this keeps the shiny bits contextual to the earth from whence they came. A geologist would wax on about how looking at the striations of the opal in the rock could tell you stories about our earths history that dates back to before man (I am guessing). I love the idea of the history of mother earth at one with my own urban life (which is often very much separate from nature) in one precious piece of jewelry.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">In an industry where jewelry is often just about bling and flash, or simply following the iconography of current trends, it is great to see a line that is a work of art married with nature.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The khaki military shirt has rapidly become the zeitgeist of this seasons wardrobe. In styling this shoot, I decided a military shirt would be a good way to tone down the feminine, and express strength and punk rebellion without all the over-the-top glam-rock of numerous shiny studs. The shirt performs the same function as a good pair of combat boots, by contrasting against the delicate. In this case, I paired it with a black lace camisole (another big trend this season: black lace underpinnings), and a sleek cream pencil skirt (see how cream can go edgy gals?). These shirts also go great over sequins or a floral silk print.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">And don't forget that unexpected splash of color! <div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">My go-to look since college has been a feminine dress paired with combat boots. Granted, back then, it was vintage velvet baby-doll dresses, real combat boots from a surplus store, and obnoxious stripey tights. It was the '90s. These days, the look is back in fashion, but as with any revival, is done with more finesse. I love the bird print on this dress, because birds can read as whimsical and edgy at the same time. Neutral socks and a chunky sweater pull it together for fall, cinched with an amber belt to elevate the look. The silk headscarf adds a bohemian feel in a way that creates tension with the combat boots (which happen to be a lot nicer than the real ones I used to wear back in the day).</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The genius of this look is that you can be as delicate and feminine as you want, but walk with complete comfort and the feeling of strength.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">When I first saw this delicate silk dress with skull print on it, I went nuts. Just when you thought skulls were played out (which I never wanted to see happen), Karen Walker worked it into a fresh feminine print. I paired it with a silk cream blouse by Bess (a line with some amazing vintage pieces). I have come to the conclusion that a cream silk blouse is an essential for any womans wardrobe. Even us edgy gals can pair them with grey or to offset a creative print.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I am also still loving socks with a fabulous pair of heels, a trend that has been going strong for a few years now. Keep them slouchy for a devil-may-care feel. The beret adds a french rebel flair, as I feel that it's fun to create a story with your accessories. I added the vintage leather utility belt as it cinches to the smallest waist, while adding a tough military feel (and this particular belt once belonged to my Parisian mother). The whole look was capped off with delicate jewelry by VeraMeat. I particularly loved the bird with fangs necklace, which unfortunately is barely visible in these shots.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">If you decide to go for a look like this in the fall, I suggest adding a military parka for cold days.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">As you may or may not know, TOKION mag has started a new all fashion photo mag called FACTORY. I was lucky enough to be called upon to style for the premiere issue in which the theme was 'Rebel' and 'Rogue'. This is a theme for which I feel I am particularly equipped to handle. My fashion sense is about breaking the rules and personal expression, and my past is quite full of healthy rebellion.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Here I share with you the printed tears from the story I styled, shot on vintage plastic cameras by the fabulous photo duo, <a href="http://www.freymartinphotography.com/" target="_blank">Frey+Martin</a>. The idea was vintage eclectic rebel. Shortly, I will also be posting the many outfits that did not appear in the magazine. FACTORY provides it's readers many varied fashion stories, all of which are abridged to accommodate many eclectic points of view. Thankfully, I have this forum to publish the rest of the story.</span></div><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/NTU-ysINsZMwmayT2ExGbw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdJ-SVTTgB-GWJiHLY1-fWlX3RlZExI0RmUNjpvzs2XJsX4L6knetMpnTQLIa5cQwfFYABT9hoBrUtUTlfUFkyP-jW8Ba51GR_8jyNrHHtaho98VhY0Ux28VwHULH998KwvU-dcMLUPM/s800/factory1.jpg" height="754" width="602" /></a><br />

We have many idioms, such as "when it rains, it pours" and "feast or famine". Well, lucky for me, I have been feasting in the pouring rain. The kind of busy where your laundry piles high, and your friends wonder if you've moved away. Great for me, not so very great for this here blog.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">But stay tuned, as I am going to give you a little peek into some of what I've been up to...</span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-72182879675753091852010-04-22T17:26:00.002-04:002010-04-22T17:27:55.096-04:00I just discovered Factory by Erik Hart, and I love<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/imEw9wPXKRtVYQdxCLf9Jg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/S9C6Q1zKn6I/AAAAAAAABn4/EbkEccMHUt0/s800/factory.jpg" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I was just doing research for an upcoming editorial shoot, when an associate of mine suggested that I take a look at <a href="http://www.erikhart.com/collections/current.html">Erik Hart</a>. I was immediately drawn to the modern graphic nature of his work, and the oh-so-current casual edginess. I did my homework and discovered that he used to design for Morphine Generation, another edgy brand that I have been a fan of.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">In 2008 he launched his eponymous line of graphic dark and luxurious clothes (pictured above, from his website). I love the tailoring combined with the buttery leather. So, of course I delved further to discover that he has just launched Factory by Erik Hart, a more affordable RTW line that has just as much edge and creativity at price points ranging from $65 to $200.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This line is genius because you can go minimalist and clean, if you like, or layer it up for a downtown look. Wear a body con dress with some killer heels, or go ahead and throw on a pair of boots and a blazer.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Factory by Erik Hart Spring 2010 is currently available at <a href="http://www.revolveclothing.com/brandpages/FactorybyErikHart.jsp">Revolve Clothing</a>, <a href="http://www.crywolfny.com/factory/brand_71.html">Cry Wolf</a>, and <a href="http://www.oaknyc.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=erik+hart">OAK</a>.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This line hits so many trends on the mark it's hard to count: black/white, body-con bandage dress, sheer fabrics, graphics, loose t-shirts, edgy prints, grey, boyfriend jackets...really, you can't go wrong here. I absolutely adore this look. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Now, I shall have to plead with Kelly Cutrone at Peoples Rev to lend me some looks... *sigh* wish me luck!</span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Yesterday I had the great pleasure of working with the fabulously talented Randee St Nicholas, photographer of the stars (and more specifically, she is well known for her work with Prince). I instantly loved this woman, as she turned up in a pleated skirt and vest combo, with a lacy black bolero...and big old biker boots. I had found a kindred spirit: a gal who will always be a rocker, and one who has to temper her femininity with bovver boots. She was positively glowing with creative energy, and despite having had only 3 hours of sleep the night before, her energy never wavered all day.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So, of course, she took the most amazingly flattering shots of our client (I think every gal needs Randee to take shots of her, so she can feel good about herself for a day). But in between all of that, I was learning that Randee had started a clothing line, that her fabulous outfit was her own design. It was all actually a bit of a happy accident, as happens with most creatives. She was simply bored with what was available in stores, and felt like she wanted something that would represent her better. Something fun, young and fresh, yet ageless.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So for a long time she set to creating pieces, taking extra special care in the tailoring, so that she would have something nice to wear on the red carpet. And when she did finally debut her clothes, it was sort of like opening a can of worms. All of a sudden, everyone wanted to know who made them, and moreover, wanted to know where to get them. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">She didn't think too much of it, until one day she was shooting Taylor Momsen, and her stylist insisted on putting Randees line in with the mix of clothes. Taylor had no idea. But sure enough, she kept picking out Randees pieces to wear, and the rest, as they say is history.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The line is called RSN Boheme, and will be hitting stores soon.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">If you ask me, I think it is sort of 90's throwback, with a touch of lolita goth, and a smattering of Betsey Johnson. And seeing as how we all seem to be segueing smoothly from 80's retro to 90's retro, I think RSN Boheme will fare very well. On top of that, she designed the clothes to flatter mature womens bodies, and yet 16 year old Taylor loves it too.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Personally, I would love to have the creme lace bolero that Taylor is rocking, as it is a fantastic layering piece. I am also dieing over a fantastic slip dress, inspired by a vintage piece she had found. She offered to make me one in purple with caramel trim to be worn under a grey boyfriend jacket and the requisite big old boots (thanks Randee, you ROCK!). I wish I had a picture, but they are not available yet.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">In the mean time, check out her website: </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><a href="http://rsnboheme.com/">rsnboheme.com</a></span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I love this look. The high contrast of black and white, and the complimentary juxtaposition of floaty feminine and hard masculine. A great look for any gal, and one that I believe to be ultimately inspired by Courtney Love. Yes, I think we are well into the thick of 90's revival (surreal, isn't it...those of you who were young adults in the 90's?)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Ever since I acquired a white chiffon dress (Jovovic-Hawk for Target, remember the one?), I have been sporting the look. Mainly because I love the romanticism of a white floaty dress, but need to give it the strength it needs to survive in the big city (otherwise that floaty white dress with be stomped on, sullied, and perhaps mugged). So once again, styling comes into play: it's all in the pairing. In this case, I have worn my dress in many variations: with a vest, with a boyfriend cardigan, a blazer, even a leather jacket.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So I took note when I saw the look heading down the runway in droves. Pictured above is Maticevski, Erin Fetherston (both fall 2010), and Narciso Rodriguez (spring 2010). Pictured below is a story for Glamour, and the legendary Patti Smith. And then, just for fun, below that I made a collage of random fashion savvy celebs who also have sported versions of the look. And one day, my pretties, I will snap a shot of myself in the aforementioned Jovovic-Hawk dress so you can see how I do it.</span></div><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/w4OHsOLbXO44-QRWvjoZ-Q?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/S76PSHkb7EI/AAAAAAAABnI/FetFyV-i_58/s800/blackwhite.jpg" /></a><br />

This is sort of the Gilt Group equivalent for making the body and face that wears the gilt group designer duds look like a million bucks. It offers limited time deep discounts on facials, massages, spa treatments, and yes, work-outs.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Now, work tends to be slow in New York during the winter as it seems that most photoshoots occur in sunnier climes (such as Miami and LA). And whereas when I am working I spend 12-18 hours running around the whole city, when I am not working I turn into some sort of lump-type-object. I transform from my usual fugue state to being completely sedentary.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Well, this was just not working for me. But then, I am also not one for torturous and mundane gym work-outs. Sure, the thought of potentially being the owner of a tight rear-end the likes of which a 16 year old cheerleader might possess can get me to the gym. once. maybe twice. Because, in the end, the gym experience is pure hell, and after a couple goes, that potential 16 year old ass is simply not motivation enough to get off my oh-so-comfy couch happy-place.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I need more than potential hard-body-ness. I need to have </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">fun</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So, a few weeks after joining life-booker, I got an email for a month at </span><a href="http://www.crunch.com/Classes"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Crunch Gym</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> for $36. This headline alone, of course, would usually hold no interest for me. However, the email cleverly emphasized all the crazy fun classes they have a Crunch. Whomever thinks these things up, clearly does so with people like me in mind.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So I have gathered all the schedules of classes for all the Crunch gyms in Manhattan, and like my first day at college, I have excitedly highlighted all the classes I want to try.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Yesterday was my first class: Anti-Gravity Yoga. Wowza. They hung vaguely stretchy large sheets in a U shape from the ceiling, that became each persons yoga-hammock. Immediately it was fun, as I was able to hop on and swing about like a child. It was more difficult and scary that it would seem, but once you try a move, it really becomes second-nature. Hanging like a bat upside down. Flipping around. Doing the splits in the air. After one class, I think I'm pretty much qualified to join the circus! My only question is, can I install one of these hammocks in my living room? I would recommend this class to anyone and everyone. There are great stretches, and even an aided downward-dog (my hardest pose in yoga, as I have terrible hamstrings), fun swinging, and I do believe that hanging upside down must do some good in terms of circulation.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ok9WL06Qyfc&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ok9WL06Qyfc&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Today I tried BOING with Kangoo. In this class they give you boots with some sort of spring like contraption attached to the bottom. This class is about bouncing. Lots of bouncing. Right away, I wanted to bounce the second I put them on. It's quite addictive. So I was very excited to get going, but once we did, I realized a very important fact: I am terribly out of shape. This class is full-on aerobic. And here I thought the spring would do all the work. I got extremely sweaty and red, I got a cramp in my side, and at one point I do believe I was having a minor heart attack. However, I can't WAIT to go again! I am a child, and what child ever wanted to get OFF a moonbounce, no matter how tired they were? In fact, I think one day I would like to own my very own pair of<a href="http://jumpboots.com/"> Kangoo boots</a>, and bounce around the city like the biggest dork that ever lived. look, it's gotta be great for the lymph nodes, right?</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J1woF_VqbXU&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J1woF_VqbXU&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So that's the recap of my first 48 hours. I also intend to take the following classes: Pole Dancing (because it reminds me of playing on a jungle gym, or cirque de soleil), Awesome 80's Dance class (because no matter how tired I am, I ALWAYS have energy during an 80's song. ALWAYS. really, I'll do anything during an 80's song. Plus, they'll be teaching dope 80's dance moves, so it's win-win, really), Masala Bhangra (dancing like a Bollywood movie, something I've always wanted to learn), Hip Hop (why not? I'm a gangly white girl, I could use some help in this arena), videography (britney spears choreo...I'll bust it out on the dancefloor one weekend and shock everyone), and then I'll repeat (especially Anti-gravity Yoga, and BOING).</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Of course, all of this seems well and good, but I would be remiss if I did not also report the pitfalls. First off, as a freelancer, it is very hard for me to show up to classes with any regularity, as work can run late, or just run me into the ground. And secondly, these classes do not run as often as I would like. Given that fact, they are always very full, and since some of them require the use of rather limited equipment, you have to arrive about an hour early to get in. So for now, it's great. Work is slow, and it's getting me moving and stimulated. But soon work will pick-up again, and I will have to work-out on my own time. But for now, I'll let you know how it all goes.</span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-29109585254796365502010-03-30T15:41:00.000-04:002010-03-30T15:41:00.292-04:00Fortune found at Brooklyn Collective<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4BviMhOgrBJWRmSX2B60iQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRgfGfKKVZ0CNKNvQMjnid8sjaeClEhsA7NYOFFRvNO7NB0Mz_hBWe9empAQZNcBGPayOlmQan-I7_hx9dxiiBpQfZ0LUQset5y65_mMLyBwBO71lKhM8Otj8DpUk3OQUaBqCprQMwTDo/s800/cbyfortune.jpg" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Carrying on my report of the Brooklyn Collective show, I was immediately drawn to a table in the center of the room that was covered with items that were, well, covered in studs. I'm like a magpie when it comes to hardware. I'm a drawn to anything shiny, metal, and punky: we're talking, studs, metal exposed zippers, and chains. Apparently Melissa Fortune has a similar penchant for all things metal, because last year she started </span><a href="http://www.createdbyfortune.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Created By Fortune</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">, a designer line that she aptly describes as "rebel with a feminine twist" (the feminine part being on the subtle end of the spectrum, if you ask me).</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Personally, I love this stuff. And if, like me, you are a fan of </span><a href="http://www.thomaswylde.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Thomas Wylde</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">, you should definitely check out this collection. My favorite piece has to be the studded bowtie necklace. Making a bowtie a necklace is a unique twist on the idea of the boyfriend look, and one that includes adding chain, which is among my small list of obsessions. Add the studs, and a small skull, and you have me hooked. </span></div><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/l8YRN1haoDcMfqXD5owU_w?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikGaLGtu6cdl3TVmdyDUeaTI_TJ4JMpGkmXHgzeLjEQIGfR8G2wd0-03LGTeAv_Ibz7uDRvM31cW-oV1DJLOYm60KVFkoQlfaQYiID8Kw2yg9K3HeTjKLk4kGK_pAvWZ6zfoo8aajhYEw/s800/cbyfortune3.jpg" /></a><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I was positively drooling over the beautiful painted illustrations on wood mounted at the brooklyn collective by <a href="http://liseljane.com/Lisel.html">Lisel Jane</a>. They are haunting, dark, irreverant, and absolutely gorgeous.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Check out this talented illustrator at </span><a href="http://www.liseljane.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">www.liseljane.com.</span></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">love love love.</span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-34541304527565199802010-03-29T16:03:00.001-04:002010-03-29T16:04:43.444-04:00Zooey Deschanel, I have a new designer for you...<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CeeY8bPbpXHqjpCKVPR2xw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/S7EEzYfJ3VI/AAAAAAAABl8/D6stfyVRXpg/s800/agrecco2.jpg" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Well, I will be seeing She & Him play a set this Wednesday, so maybe I'll be able to tell Zooey in person, that I have found a designer hot on the heels of Erin Fetherston. Honestly, it is a small niche market: the every so cute innocent feminine vintage feel. One that can be hard to pull off, unless you are the fabulous Zooey Deschanel. She has a way of capturing that delicate sensibility while still carrying her wry sardonic edge. Oh, would that I could be her.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So, I was at a gathering at Brooklyn Collective (deep in the heart of Redhook, which is quite a trek from Manhattan, I tell you), and I got to meet the lovely <a href="http://alexandragrecco.com/">Alexandra Grecco </a>who has launched a line of perfectly sweet pin-up attire. The sort of clothes that say 'oops! Am I being sexy? But I was just sitting on a picnic blanket in the park reading Jane Austen while enjoying this lovely lolli-pop.' The looks are flattering, sexy in an innocent way, uber-feminine, and definitely vintage. I particularly loved the shimmery bikini in a dusty rose with high waisted bottoms paired with a bandeau top. Alexandra also created a slew of accessories such as hairbands and delicate confections for the head. The designer herself modeled whimsical romper in black that nipped in at the natural waistline and rouched around a scooped bust line creating a perfect hourglass figure that would suit just about anyone.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I have a few musician friends who have found their way to the '40s look, whom I also think would benefit from acquiring pieces in this collection. But as Zooey has exemplified time and time again, you don't have to rock the head to toe Marylin Monroe or full-on girl friday vintage look everyday to pull off a few vintage pieces. These looks can be modernized with the right shoes or boots, accessories, and maybe a cardigan or a blazer.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">To see more, go to <a href="http://www.alexandragrecco.com/">www.alexandragrecco.com</a>...that means you Ms. Deschanel!</span></div><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/SCHSKUbXMJmzdCP7pfxdzQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYshAOQ_1DJoBFjcEm3mae57dxQhNlaYfYgSBcHMmtHe-Taq5YtutD0k5zEkJ-cROMgKVsmWZjgDKBb7DjY2U3n9_5urzaWXoADPUcZ9BfMqbLqKFki4vzop8H7u9rMtgMdZj7lw-p1AE/s800/Agrecco1.jpg" /></a>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-54938108880851574862010-03-23T22:11:00.002-04:002010-03-23T22:17:34.518-04:00SJP is killin' it in Marchesa<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/6v8ZfxMn1Zhe2BkGAu2qRw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/S6lzlJbhWlI/AAAAAAAABlY/4TwLpJWW_1Q/s800/marchesasjp.jpg" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This dress just </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">kills</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> me. I actually have it in a nice folder on my computer desktop marked 'favorites' from Fashionweek. Would that I were a celebrity so that I could be trotting around in a Fall/Winter 2010 dress like this. Soak it in! The floatiness, the flirty skirt length, and that collar-bone detail! Stunning. SJP wore this Marchesa confection at the ShoWest Awards in Vegas. <br />
My only qualm is the bra strappage. This could have been avoided, no? But I do love the sexy bare legs and simple platform pumps. Booties would be a cute look too, but might as well be all legs in this showpiece dress and keep the rest simple simple simple. There is no need to over style this one, as the dress says it all.</span></div>guerrillastylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00835596309453658947noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2344027988022222490.post-77780647503541128112010-03-22T17:44:00.001-04:002010-03-23T08:40:35.856-04:00Martial Law: thou shalt wear Utilitarian chic.<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/POMahRnhYU8-cZ9InxfT_A?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_v0nfuLNLl4A/S5Pf-kUfQEI/AAAAAAAABkY/FWncXgTG0Uo/s800/utilitarian.jpg" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Another undeniable presence on the runway was utilitarian, uniform, and military influences. Often this look creates strong shoulders and clean lines. But sometimes, it can swing the other way, evoking the grungy squatter kinds that live in the park across the street from my house. Personally, I prefer the former. As much as I love that grunge is back, I prefer to do so with the color evoked by plaid shirts, rather than the grim khaki shirts of the military. Honestly, I think this has everything to do with my daily exposure to the kids across the street, and their general head to toe dirt color. It also has to do with the fact that a structured shoulder looks great on me (and any other girl with a slight frame). </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">And once again, my favorite thing to do is play with contrasts. I just adore the big wool coat by Philosophy, belted nice and tiny at the waist and paired with a floaty chiffon and sequined gown. Absolutely mouth watering with its diversity of flavor. I also enjoyed how Doo.Ri created a very sleek simple blue uniform dress, but added subtly feminine draping on the skirt.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">It seems to me that there is a lot of room to play mix and match with this trend. Much like my much loved black moto jacket, I think a few choice military pieces could go with just about every feminine frock in your closet. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Pictured above from left to right top: Doo.Ri, Philosophy, William Rast, Richard Chai Love. <div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">As a girl with tiny inconsequential shoulders, I am loving the strong shoulder trend. I need help in that arena. An embellished and architectural shoulder balances out my hips and draws the eye to my face, as if it was perfectly placed between two ornate bookends. Strong shoulders give me strength and poise (to mask how the economy might have me sloped and slouching around).</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I am digging shoulderpad trend version 2.0 which is severe in architecture and actually more pointy and small, rather than the large rounded and line-backeresque version 1.0 (as seen in any John Hughes movie). Or else, just a great embellishment will do the trick.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">And whereas this is something I am seeing all over the runways and the high-street alike, it is also something easily replicated with a little bit of DIY. One can buy shoulderpads of different shapes and sizes at your local fabric and crafts shop. Or else, a few pyramid studs or sequined appliques could be added to a simple t-shirt. I mean, go nuts. Anything you find that comes in a pair and can be sewn to your shoulders is fair game, if you ask me. Let's all be a little bit Gaga.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">In the picture above (top left to right, then bottom left to right): William Rast, Staerk, Temperley, Jen Kao, Rodarte, VPL, Derek Lam, and Vena Cava. <div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Market week is well upon us, and the invites are pouring in to drop into showrooms and take a closer look at what will be hitting stores this fall.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> So I was strolling through one of my favorite PR houses, gushing over dresses I had seen at fashionweek that were even more spectacular up close, when I chanced upon the wonderful new design label </span><a href="http://www.maisonettenewyork.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Maisonette 1977</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">. In fact, it was one particular draped dress with a diagonal exposed zipper on the front that had me at 'hello'. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This is the second collection designed by Jane Ibrahim, but essentially the launch of a new line. Her pedigree is well refined having worked with the likes of Michael Kors, Yigal Azrouel, Oscar by Oscar De La Renta, Bill Blass New York, Theory, and Cynthia Steffe. This young new designer professes a love of grunge, which is apparent in this collection with her use of plaid and wooly layering.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Personally, I am loving the fact that grunge is coming back in, but in a somehow more elaborate and refined way than before. Afterall, I lived it. I was wearing boyfriend jackets over velvet dresses when I was in college, and well before anyone coined the term 'boyfriend jacket'. And frankly, I never even stopped wearing biker boots with my dresses since 1992. Just another example of sticking with what works for you. Still, the second go-around is always better, and grunge is no exception. Better textiles, better silhouettes, and definitely better boots.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Anyway, keep an eye out for Maisonette 1977. With her delicate draping, edgy style, modern silhouettes, and masterful mixing of textures and patterns, I think Jane will go far. I mean, look at those trousers! Most designers are hitting this trend, but I feel like Janes sense of proportion is spot on. </span></div>All pictures are pulled from the Maisonette 1977 website, and represent my favorite looks from the collection.<br />
