Angel Chang is a New York based designer that I discovered while perusing the racks of the fabulous Greg Mills showroom (a great tastemaker, I always feel like a kid in a candy shop in there).
She has that modernity that I have been seeking of late. The funny thing is that when I look at her collection I do what I normally do: I notice the great fabric choices (the way she plays with textures, but remains fairly neutral all the same), I notice her bold choices in silhouette (which are playfully futuristic with echos of the past), I simply notice the beauty and artistry involved. The reason this is funny, is that she considers herself an artist who is trying to move away from fashion for fashions sake. Her mission is to increase the functionality of modern clothes to represent our modern lives. She collaborates with experts to add in technology into her designs. I have personally seen a beautiful yet sporty silver boucle jacket that has ipod controls built into the fabric. I have seen other fabrics that change pattern when you touch them (altho, I suppose we all saw heat sensitive fabric at one point in the 80's, no?).
Still, I love her ideas, and I love her passion to create for a new generation of the on-the-go modern woman. However, despite herself, she is a fashion designer who creates very covetable looks.
Keep an eye on her folks!
