New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2009 officially starts this Friday. Mercedes-Benz IMG sent me out a nice tidy little friday to friday calendar of shows...a really rather reasonable schedule. And then I saw the real calendar. The one that includes the hundreds of designers that call NYC their home. Some are new and small, and some have been around for ages...and most of them are not even showing in the tents.
In the case of Geren Ford, not in the Tents, and not within the official dates...but a rather fabulous show. It was a civilized presentation at the Bowery Hotel that I was able to hit after a day of shooting. I gotta love it when the models stand still, and I get to look at them at my leisure. I can get up close, I can take pictures, and I can be in and out of there in a reasonable amount of time (depending on if I want to partake in the champagne). Not to mention the beauty of the hotel that added to the downtown feel of the clothes...which, of course, I loved.
The look is bright color blocking with an effortlessly sexy casual slouch to it. Layering is crucial, adding printed silk scarves, cardigans, belts, arms full of bangle bracelets, and slouchy grey socks paired with color block sandals. Every now and again, the looks were softened with a pattern or a texture, draped ever so gently, making me wonder how tom-boy and feminine could be so perfectly aligned.
And by the way, you can get the rather more affordable Hawks by Geren Ford at Urban Outfitters....available now.
