Well, as if I wasn't already addicted to eBay, Target.com, and other such midnight shopping delights...some genius came up with pretaportobello.com. We have now truly entered a global market, when one will no longer look in envy into the closets of our jetsetter friends, but now can have a wardrobe to rival any world traveller.
I live in New York where, lets face it, I am never short of fashion options. But every now and again, I pine for the days that I lived in England. A culture rife with rebellion and individualism: the birthplace of punk, the home of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. I am always inspired when I visit. One place that many Londoners flock to for that special piece, that one of a kind vintage thread, or long lost brooch, or young designers hand sewn confection, is Portabello Market. The crappy snapshot above is one that I took whilst visiting a couple years ago. I swear the stalls went on for miles and the crowds of seekers were endless. Now, nothing can replace the experience of visiting a culture and meeting a designer or vintage collector in person...but hell, with rising fuel costs, a girl has to get her satisfaction somehow. Besides, how much elbowing can one person take?
So yes, I am very excited about pretaportobello, which has gathered together what they determine to be the best of the market stalls. Both vintage and new pieces can be found online, and yes, you can even haggle the price. Move over bidding-on-ebay...now it's all about your negotiation skills. So get to it people! Below are some pics of what I thought was cool. But hey, I'm just a stylist...you are an individual...get in the spirit, what speaks to you?
